When God Seems Silent

Dear Balanced Life family,

Have you ever prayed for something, I mean, sincerely petitioned the throne of grace for something that you really wanted or believed was urgently needed, and you couldn’t understand why you didn’t get an answer? Well, let me tell you, there are times when God seems silent.

Even in the Bible, good men cried out to God, and He seemed to be silent. Job 30:20 says, “I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.” In Psalm 22:1, David cries out, “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me…?” God seemed silent, but if you continue to read, you’ll find that God did answer their prayers and brought them out victoriously.

God always answers prayer. God hears and responds, but his response is according to His will. Many of the prayers we call unanswered actually were answered, but we didn’t understand the answer. Are you expecting God to say yes to every request you make? That’s not going to happen. Sometimes He says “yes”, sometimes He says “no”, and sometimes He says “wait”, but He always answers.

When you get a “no” from God, you need faith to believe that God knows what’s best for you and you don’t need it. If He says “wait”, you’ve got to trust God and patiently wait, no matter how urgent you think it is. God is always on time.

Ask God to help you hear and accept His answers to your prayers. God made each one of us. He knows how to communicate with us. Remember, God will never ignore the prayers of those who believe in Him. “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18. God’s nearness is a fact. He’s close, attentive, and listening, and He’s answering prayer even when He seems silent.
